Above and Beyond
Pets age more rapidly than humans. Annual health checks are very important and most veterinary surgeons provide this at the time of vaccination. We feel that not only should your pets have a yearly check up at the time of vaccination, but that they should have a check up 6 months after vaccination. Health checks are a great time to bring up any questions you might have about your pets’ health. This is also a good time for the veterinary surgeon to find any problems that have not become too obvious. Some problems, if found early enough, can be address and solved. In addition to ensuring your animal is fit and healthy and capturing any problems early it also means that if your pet is on a regular vet prescribed medication we are able to continue to provide your prescriptions without you incurring a consultation fee. If you bring your pet to us for vaccination, not only do we provide a Full Health Check at the time of vaccination but we also will invite you back 6 months later for a FREE HEALTH CHECK. We are the only vets in the area who provide this service.

RCVS Accredited Tier 2 Clinic
The Acorn veterinary Clinic is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons accredited Tier 2 Small Animal Practice. To achieve this status we are subject to regular rigorous independent inspections and spot checks. Further, we have to maintain a high standard of care and provide services that are not considered standard for small animal practice. Veterinary surgeons and nurses all have to perform a set number of professional development courses each year. At present there is only one other practice on the Wirral that is accredited.

Your Local Veterinary Practice
At Acorn Veterinary Surgery we strive to be a part of the local community by presenting demonstrations and talks to the local schools and supporting the local school fete. We also support the local animal charity – Pet Aid. As part of the West Kirby community we feel that providing a practice that adds to the character of the village is very important and with that in mind we have put an emphasis on making sure that our practice is well kept inside and out. We have made great improvements to the street appeal by placing hanging baskets and flower beds around the front of the building.

Staying up with modern technology

We have recently invested in two new state-of-the-art pieces of technology to help us diagnose your pet's problems. Our new ultrasound system enables us to examine your pet in a non-invasive way. This helps to make a diagnosis or monitor a problem in a manner that has minimal stress to your pet. We have also invested in a new in-house laboratory haematology and biochemistry analyser. This will enable us to conduct most blood and urine test in house and produce a thorough and accurate picture of your animal's overall health. Performing blood tests in house means that these results are available the same day. Our nw digital radiography has improved our diagnostic ability with better images that can be readily sent via electronic media to specialists.

Modernising Our Practice

We have just updated our reception area that now offers a quiet room for cats while they wait to see the veterinary surgeon. This allows staff to move more easily from one area of the building to another as well as providing a bigger reception area. We have also updated our cattery and isolation wards so that not only will cats be hospitalised in a quieter environment, a large window into the ward means that they can be readily seen and monitored. This will greatly improve the comfort and decrease that stress to your cat during its stay. We have recently modernised the back portion of the hospital with new vinyl floors throughout.
