Cattle Foot Trimming Grinding Course
This course is an ideal introduction for any person who has experience of trimming and is interested in using a grinder.
The aim of the course is to introduce using a grinder for the routine trimming of cow's feet and to ensure you learn to use it in the correct manner and understand the problems you will encounter if it is used incorrectly. Practical sessions on dead feet will give you the opportunity to get a feel for the equipment without any detriment to the welfare of live cows.
This is an advanced procedure course and all those attending must have previously attended a recognised basic foot trimming course.
Review:
Review of the anatomy of the foot and understanding why feet need to be trimmed regularly. Reiterate the correct way to rebalance the foot using the 5 stage Dutch method previously taught.
Introduction to the Grinder
All aspects of this machine will be covered ensuring those attending the beginners course will be able to use the machine safely. Participants will be instructed in one model of grinder and disc and learn how to maintain it in good working order. You will also be taught how to trim and rebalance feet using grinders, again following the Dutch method. The problems and pitfalls of using a grinder incorrectly will be emphasised. Practical sessions will be on cadaver feet and participants will then move onto other course levels and achieve a satisfactory standard of competence before progressing onto live cows.
